New York, New York

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to tick visiting Big Apple off my bucket list.  Me, my Mum and Sister visited for 6 days at the beginning of March.  I have always wanted to go to New York , it's one of those cities that I have always been so fixated on visiting.  There's never enough time to it all (the City is so huge) but I think we managed to do a lot of the best touristy locations.  If you have more than a couple of days and you are visiting for the first time then I would 100% recommend buying the New York City Pass.  It costs £100 and you can buy it online before you go. It is valid for 9 days from the first day of use and includes tickets to the following attractions:

- Empire State Building Observatory
- American Museum of Natural History
- Metropolitan Museum of Art
- The option of: Guggenheim Meissen OR Top of the Rock admission
- The option of: Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island OR a Circle Line Sightseeing Cruise
- The option of: 9/11 Memorial & Museum OR Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

The ticket will also allow you to visit the Empire State Building twice.  I would recommend going twice, it allows you to get two different views of the City which is a stunning.

You also get a 15% off discount for Bloomingdales that you will be able to use on top of the sales.  A dream come true for shopaholics like me and my sister.

The Statue of Liberty!

The day we visited the Statue of Liberty was the coldest day by far with lows of -8. We was shivering like crazy on the boat over to Ellis Island but it was defo worth it to be so close to such an iconic landmark. You can book tickets to go inside the Crown but if you want to do that you need to book in advance. There's no booking on a whim that day as you need to get in there at least three months before.

Another location that is a must see is Times Square.  If you love the hustle and bustle then you'll love it here. Expect to be shoved and pushed as it's just like visiting Leister Square but on a bigger scale.  Times Square is the theatre land of New York.  Being a lover of musicals for me seeing a Broadway show was one of the highlights.  We went to see Aladdin on our last night and it was phenomenal. I booked these tickets online before we went because I knew I wanted to see this particular show.  However if you find that you have a free evening where you aren't sure what to do, head towards the centre of the Square where you will find a ticket office which is selling discounted tickets for that evening.  You will be sure to find a good deal! Please don't ever buy tickets for the shows from people off the street - it's best to steer clear.

One of my favourite days of the trip was the day we visited Central Park.  We managed to time it quite well (a happy accident) that the day we visited the Park it was the  nicest  day of our trip weather wise by far.  The park was so beautiful,  it was picture perfect.  Warning: as you approach and enter into the park there will be people on bikes trying to sell you their tours that cycle you around to various places inside the park.   They are ridiculously expensive and will expect to be tipped. You are better off grabbing a map of the park and renting a bike for a couple hours.  However we didn't do this, we stumbled across an ice skating rink and I was able to convince my sis to give it a go with me.  It was so much fun!

The last thing we managed to squeeze in was the Sex and the City tour.  We are all huge fans and seeing all the different filming locations in the flesh such as Carrie Stoop and Magnolia Bakery was quite surreal. As a side note cupcakes there were delish. At the end of the tour you get to stop of for some drinks (Sex and the City style) - cosmos all round please!

I already can't wait to go back and visit again but maybe in the summer next time as it would be a tad warmer! Let me know of your favourite places in NYC are to visit or where you want to travel to soon.
